Sillbird Unicorn Building Toy Set

When I saw this I was instantly reminded of the animals in the video game Horizon Zero Dawn. The flowers on the fantastic and fantastically designed winged unicorn are very similar to the organic robot creature designs.

The kids like to stretch their abilities by doing building kits they think are just out of the range of their abilities so this extremely complicated expert level model is going to be a lot of fun. The model has a lot of flower and tiny pieces that you have to be very careful so you don't knock them off just by touching the model. The pieces stick together really well but when they're this small you just have to be conscience of what's going on.

The instructions are really well written with detailed indicators what bags to use for each section and the steps are easy to follow with great diagrams showing what to do.

This is a stunning model that's wonderfully made.

When I first saw the listing for this set, I was quite intrigued- the pictures of it were quite beautiful, but with some of my past experience with non-LEGO building sets I was concerned that it was going to be as much of a nightmare to assemble as it was beautiful to look at. Thankfully I was very wrong.

The set comes in a fairly good sized box- brick separator shown for size reference. The parts are divided into 6 sets of bags that correspond with the instructions. I also have to compliment the instructions- though I would personally have changed a few things (a bit on that later), they were clear and easy to follow and did a REALLY good job I thought of showing additional detail pictures to make things easier- especially nice was the 'straight on' view of some part assemblies when you needed to have them alighned a certain way for things to work- it really made it easier to not make mistakes.

The biggest problem I usually run into with bricks that aren't made by LEGO is that none of them quite meet the same tolerance levels as LEGO holds their moulds to which means that parts are either too tight to assemble easily, too loose to hold together properly, or (especially with larger plates) they bow or flex such that it's just a lot harder to assemble than actual LEGO bricks. I can say definitively that the parts in this set are probably the best-made non-LEGO elements that I've encountered. There's still a -slight- difference in both the fit and feel of them, but they went together without any of the issues that I usually have (especially with a larger set like this) when building with non-LEGO parts.

The design is, as I noted earlier, quite striking and beautiful- both the floral base and the unicorn (technically should be an Alicorn I suppose since it has wings too) are very well design and colorful and some of the techniques used in the unicorn are clever. Thinking about it, I don't -believe- that this set actually used any elements that LEGO themselves don't make (like double-sided plates or stud-on-a-cheese-slopes) which is even more impressive.

About the only improvement I might have suggested would have been to change up the order of assembly a bit- the instructions as they are have you put essentially -everything- on the unicorn together before you attach it to the base. However, this mean you either need a second person to hold the unicorn while you build some of the assemblies and attach them or that you have to put it down- and at that point, there's not really a good way to do so that won't result in things getting knocked off. I ended up attaching it to the base essentially as soon as all 3 legs that attach to the base were finished, and that made it a LOT easier to attach the last few things. I also would have left more of the flowers on the base until the end- quite a few ended up getting knocked off as I wrangled the unicorn onto the attach points.

Finally- not a problem but a bit of a (perhaps obvious) warning: even when fully assembled, the set is kind of fragile. it's not going to just fall apart under its own weight, but you will have to be careful in where you place it such that it doesn't get bumped too much or it will fall over or you'll knock parts off. This isn't really anything that can be fixed in the design- it's just endemic to sets like this. Obviously this isn't a set made to be played with- it's intended as a display piece, and a very striking one at that.

This set really impressed me on pretty much every level. It's definitely too complex for younger children, but then it's also a more display-oriented set and not meant to be played with. If unicorns (or Alicorns) are your thing or you know someone who likes building sets who is into them, you really can't go wrong with it.

If you ever bought lego, you probably know that it can get expensive quite fast, especially when the sets have a large amount of pieces. I decided to get this since my girlfriend and I really like to build lego sets and the fact that it would fit with our flower theme builds.

Included in the package is a total of 1472 pieces and an instruction manual that contains the building instructions. The manual is really well made and is pretty much on par with lego ones. The pieces are also well packed in identified bags. Also, I was very surprised by the quality of the blocks from this set. They show absolutely no imperfection and they snap on each other like actual lego.

One thing that I really like about it is that the build is quite large and is really detailed. It looks great on display and was really fun to build. Also, the instructions were quite easy to follow.

Still, I’m very surprised by the quality of this product. For the price, you get a great block building set that will take some time to build and be nice to display. I highly recommend it.

Such a beautiful gift this 3 dimensional abstract unicorn makes. Not only is this a puzzle that builds patience, confidence and develops instructional skills, the end result is something any child would be proud of!

The recommendation is for 10+ years, and I can see why...1420 pieces! This breeds organization and patience. This 'building' sculpture may be a good way to spend some downtime with your child before they go to bed.

What I love about this unit is that all pieces are organized into sections in bags, and clearly labeled. The manual is also a thing of beauty... well laid out, easy to follow, and beautifully drawn - a piece of art in and of itself.

The Sillbird Flowers Unicorn Building Toy Set makes a perfect Birthday or Christmas gift for a patient child and a parent willing to spend some creative time with their offspring. The end result is a perfect way to celebrate the time spent together and something to be proud of.

I am a huge fan of building brick sets and have been putting together and collecting name-brand sets for years. I normally do not order off-brand building sets but I have tried some other Sillbird sets and have always been impressed with the quality and the designs.

I saw this very cute unicorn flower set and wanted to give it a try and give the completed unicorn away as a gift.

The building kit arrived very well packaged in a very giftable box.

Inside the box, all the pieces are separated into numbered bags which are referenced in the user manual.

The assembly manual that is included is full color and has a lot of pictures and diagrams that clearly show you how to assemble the 1472 pieces.

Like all Sillbird sets the pieces snap together nicely and hold together well. They can also be separated easily if needed.

The final product of the flowered unicorn is beautiful and has a very unique look to it. It is definitely the type of piece that you would want to display for others to see or to gift to someone who likes unicorns.

I am very happy with this set. The price is about ½ the price that this would be if it were a name brand set. I do recommend this for any age from 10 and up.
